Journalist + Communications Strategist

Allow me to introduce myself.

Hey! I’m Emma Reed.

I’m a journalist and communications strategist in the architecture and design space.

I write about the human consequences of the built environment, with a focus on how places shape identity, behavior, and belonging. My work examines what design reveals about the people and institutions that create it, and how environments, in turn, shape the way we live. It is my conviction that great design, in work and word, matters.

Feature Podcast

Why do we feel nostalgic for places we’ve never been?

From fairytale castles to jungle temples, the settings of our favorite stories have captivated audiences across time and geography. Places We’ve Never Been is a reported narrative podcast about how real principles of architecture are applied (or deliberately broken) to bring fictional worlds to life. Through research, analysis, and conversations with architects, artists, and scholars, we ask how design transmits meaning while exploring how built environments shape story and signal identity. This episode was reported, written, hosted, and produced by Emma Reed.
